Philadelphia Electrifies
Parkway
PROBLEM:
Varying and occasional need for electrical power
The City of Philadelphia holds regular outdoor parties
and events on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. These events, including major
rock and classical music extravaganzas, all require electricity. The city
didn't want to create a potential hazard by running extension cords out
of the various museums that surround Eakins Oval and line the Parkway.

First Union Bike Race requires as
much electricity as it delivers to crowds.

SOLUTION:
Outdoor, low profile, metered, distribution panels
The city and its electrical contractor called on
Penn Panel & Box because of its unique ability to design and build custom
enclosures and distribution equipment. Penn Panel designed and built two
permanent electrical distribution enclosures installed on each side of
Eakins Oval. The small, low-profile boxes have a special, key-operated
inward-opening design so that access to wires is limited. Each panel contains
42 circuits to supply all the power that might ever be needed for any
contingency. The installation includes metering so that the city can track
how much power each event requires.
Events making use of the connections include the biggest
bike race in the country, the First Union Bike Race, as well as Sunoco's
Welcome America Celebration, and a host of others.
